: My new modded 2078A stock
: wisconsinwalter April 09, 2009, 05:51:58 AM
Not the greastest, but my first attempt at modding a stock.
The wood as you know is that real dark unevenly stained chinese wood.

I stripped it and added some sapele and alder to the stock and changed the hard lines.  I stained it a fawn color and sprayed it, but might gloss it up more.

Any suggestions for next time?

Next time you get the urge to modify your stock, DON'T!
Do mine instead. ;^) What did you spray it with? I like the way it turned out.

Once sanded, I used a fawn color stain and a 2 part conversion laquer.  It provides a much better finish compared to varnish as it resists flaking with use.

The shaping can be done with a dremel and finished up with a palm sander!  It is not as hard as you may think, hardest part is stripping it safely

Is that a nirtocellulose lacquer like used on violins or is it a different type of lacquer?
