Well, the .177 Winchester 800 refurb that I ordered from sportsmansguide.com arrived today. I'm not a big refurb guy but they had the gun on sale and I also had a coupon so I wound up getting the gun for $45 bucks including delivery so I figured "what the heck". I figured I could always send it back if it was a lemon. Anyway,,,, long story short........ I am thrilled with the gun.
The metal looks flawless, not a scratch or mark on it. The bluing is nice and dark and even. The stock is very nice. The stock does have 2 or 3 very small marks on it but nothing that jumps out at ya. The lockup is nice and tight, it cocks nice and smooth, the firing cycle isn't as harsh as my Winchester 1000 or Daisy powerline 1000 and I was shocked to find that this 800 actually has a decent trigger.
I cleaned her up, gave her some lube and spent about 30 minutes in the backyard shooting some groups with the open sights using CPH's.
I was delighted to find the little gun shooting beautiful tight groups. I stayed out there killing spinners and tin cans until it started to get dark.
I took the rifle back down to my basement workshop and installed a BSA 4x32 which I also got from sportsmansguide.com awhile back. I used a coupon on that purchase also and got the scope for $18 bucks delivered. I have the gun sitting now so the loc-tite can cure for 24 hours,,, after that she's going to be placed under the rear seat of my truck to take her place as my official Truck Gun.
Total cost of my truck gun...... gun $45.... scope $18........ for a grand total of $63. God I love cheap guns that shoot hard and straight.
Took a couple of pics to show off my new cheap shooter... Was kind of dark in the basement so the pics stink but it's the best I could do.

Very nice Jeff. I really like the butt stock on that one. Thanks for sharing.

Can someone explain to me the concept of a "truck gun"?
Is that legal?
What if I get pulled over for a speeding ticket and the cop sees that in the back seat
of the cab.....am I gonna get tasered?????
-
A truck gun is one you can toss behind the seat and let it bounce around, get dinged, scratched, beat to death without worrying about it. Usually it means an inexpensive gun that's got a lot of wear or poor finish. Probably synonymous with "beater".

nice backyard gun..would have done the same if i found the gun at that price...
-
Great looking gun....for that price you can use the rifle as a door stop, so you don't need to open the door and have the rifle nearby to pop a grackle if it lands on your yard.
-
Cool looking shooter Jeff! I agree with Stan tho', I'd keep it next to the back door or kitchen corner for easy access when sniping the 'undesireables'.....out the back door, window, deck,..etc.. etc., ...... Best part is your happy with the rifle and it's money well spent! tjk

Great job, Jeff....isn't it nice to find a deal you're happy with? The gun looks great. Happy shooting with her..
-
Nice take on the Winnie 800 Jeff :) and a super deal too. I also have the 800 in my collection and like yours she has great accuracy and a pleasure to shoot. The 800 as taken her share of nutters and has plenty of power to drop em clean. :) Ed

Looks like it..... :)

Sure is a nice looking gun...what kind of gun laws you have out there? I live in Jersey, and would never be allowed to carry a gun in the vehicle, no less get one shipped to my house.
-
Here you can legally have a rifle, or air rifle, inside a vehicle but it must be unloaded. I plan on keeping it in a case under my rear seat so I'll always have an air rifle available in case the opportunity to target shoot or pest hunt arises.

Must be a lot of fun over there...here we live in a Nazi state, where our type of fun is not allowed, everything must be secret. I know alot of guys who have airguns, but sshhhhhhh.
-
down here in Texas we use an Easy Rider rifle rack for our truck guns.... Thats a nice one Jeff...

I gotta move to Texas.

LOL... We do have it good on gun ownership, but we have some screwy laws on game animals and air rifles.. luckily the list of game animals is small and almost anything that runs or crawls is leagle shootin...

Is that a lathe I see hiding behind that 800?

...nope, but I do admin/mod the Teardrop and TinyTravelTrailer forum(http://../jscripts/tiny_mce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-cool.gif).........MJ

Yes, a lathe is an immensely useful machine tool. I use my 7x12 the most. I need to get started restoring my 10x36.
