I am new to this sport of air guns.
I just bought a Ruger- Air Hawk and it seems to be a very nice rifle. I still have to get it sighted in... but the manual it came with leaves a lot to be disired.
It does not tell me how to safely take apart the internal workings so I can work on it. No exploded view parts list or any of that stuff.
I have several bullet fired rifles, shot guns, pistols and paintball guns and I take them all down and put them all back together for cleaning.
Are there any posts that have a detailed guide or manual that I could refer to for help with this?

Don't try taking it down without first going over things with some folks here. Unless you have a good spring compressor and some familiarity with disassembling a spring powered gun you can do yourself some serious injury. I'm sure help is on the way! BTW, welcome! Those are nice rifles.

As Redfeather mentioned a spring compressor is ideal, however with the articulated cocking arm you can remove the barrel and just use a pipe/bar clamp. Yep....what the members above said....most if not all airguns will not include instructions on how to take it apart. And only some might have an exploded view of the parts.

The reason your gun doesn't come with tear down instructions is because the manufacturer doesn't want you to tear it down. It's a dangerous proceedure, and they could possibly be held liable in some way if you or anybody got hurt taking it apart. Most manufacturers will void any kind of warrenty if not serviced by 'their technicians/ rep's etc. My advice,.....Just shoot it as much as you can to break it in. The GTA is an awesome source of information on this subject, so read up as much as you can before you decide to tear into!!! Best of Luck,....and welcome to the GTA!!!! tjk

I don't intend to tear it down right away and I know I have to do some shooting to get it broken in before I start getting too technical with it. I am just trying to learn as much as I can about these weapons so I can safely work on it in the future.
I printed out some pictures of the spring Compressor that charlie built and I'm sure they will be a big help so I can build my own. What it doesn't show is how to use it. I would like to see some pic's of how the spring assem is incerted into it, so I can see how to remove the spring .
Can anyone help with that? ........I would appreciate anything you can offer. Thanks!
Just a note:
I have done some gunsmithing on my other guns so I'm pretty handy. I also have my own turning lathe and milling machine so I can make almost anything I need.
I have also made my own muzzel break for my Ruger Air Rifle already, I didn't like the fixed sights it came with, so I took them off. They seemed to fragile and I will just use the scope it came with.

Order a new seal because you may nick it removing the piston. If you get some Moly and lube tune it will speed up break in period. I opened mine before firing and it was very dry.

With Moly you just want a light coat.
