: HAPPY B- DAY TO ME!!!!!
: lillysdad621 May 31, 2009, 04:53:49 PM
yay!!! my wife as wonderful as she always is decided that this year i deserved something that would fall in the "completely unecessary" list that she scales my interests in. well, she actually scouted around and saw me gawking over a QB79 that i always look at at the Archer's sight. And then she actually ordered me one!!! and in the right caliber!!! i can't wait. what she actually ended up ordering is the custom qb79, not the base model. the only thing is that besides the golden touches, and the lack of sights, what is the difference between them? has anyone actually ordered the custom? what do you think of it? another thing also... i would need to get the airsource tanks and the little golden adapter that comes with them? will they fit without the adapter? what does it do??? can i use a paintball tank? what size diameter might fit under the barrel? and as for the qb 79... is it a loud gun compared to my qb 78 .22? i think that is enough questions... the forum is open...

Congrats!!!

A regular 9oz Paintball tank will screw in, but wont fit without pressing up on the barrel. I use the on/off valve that archer sells along with the Airsource to paintball adaptor and crosman airsource cartriges.

The only difference between the 79 and the 79 custom is all the brasswork and the muzzlebreak.

Good luck and have fun!   :D

3.5 oz  paintball tank. You can find them online and she just screws right into the tank block.

well, actually Archer Airguns sells the custom versions of the QB 78, 79, 57 and b3-1. They test them before they ship them and they are set up for different uses, as targeting, hunting, etc. I think she got it there. check their site, they got a ton of cool stuff for the qb's...

I got the 79 and she is mint!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Thanks Steve, thanks Cornelia... it shoots amazing!!!! the only thing i see is that it is a very tight under the barrel and i can't screw in the 9 oz. paintball bottle... I got a custom qb79, is that using the same barrel as the standard qb79, diameter wise??? if not, how do i fit it???

Well, your daughter certainly made a good choice for your birthday, congratulations!

The barrel diameter of the QB79 Custom is the same as that of the standard gun (15mm nominal). The problem is that the diameter of 9oz paintball tanks has changed over the years. Older tanks were of steel while many newer tanks are alloy and have a larger diameter - unfortunately this larger diameter is why an alloy tank may not fit. The answer is to use a smaller tank with a diameter of less than 2.00-inches. This may be a 3.5-oz tank or a steel 9oz tank. Personally, I use either an Avanti tank or 88g AirSource tanks on my QB79 - the latter requires a Crosman AirSource/Paintball Adapter.

I'm glad that you like your QB79 Custom  :)

Thank you for taking the time to answer, Mr Archer. Let me tell you what a fine rifle you have sent me. Today i was able to take it for a walk down the woods by my house. Mostly wanted to see how manageable it is in tight quarters. It is a bit nose heavy (and i am using the 88g cartridge) but it is not too heavy to carry around for 2 hrs or so. I scoped the rifle with a compact bugbuster 6x32 in an effort to balance the weight. It was zeroed in at 25 yards ( 5 shots inside a circle the diameter of a penny). I was given several opportunities to see how it fairs versus smallish game ( i wanted as a bird gun) and within 1 hr. i took  starling with a neck shot at 30 yards, and another starling with a chest shot at 40 yards at a 30 degree angle. both birds were hit and nose dived from their perches. It is fantastic! It is a bit louder than my qb78 .22 but i wanted the range that the .22 does not have. (but the .22 took a rabbit at 35 yards, but it required a coup de grace... sigh). On my way home i stopped at this spot where there is an undeveloped road and i am able to do distance shots. I took the 79 and my trusty soup can (always carry some clean, new, can, you never know when you might get an hour to plink...) and set it over a pile of logs next to a street lamp. wlaked to the next street lamp and shot it. couple of misses got me using the mil dot. to dots below was a hit. adjusted the turrets to zero in in the lid at that distance (it's got to be 45 yards at least). then started walking back and adjusting with the dots. I run out of dots about 10 yards from the 2nd lamp post!!! is got to be 80+ yards!!! and this .177 was hitting... well, touching the can and knocking it over. It does not have any use at that distance but it should be fun plinking at paper targets at that distance... I need to borrow the 4-16x44 that is on my pcp to see if it can group at that distance... Now it is sighted back in at 30 yards, a more useful "hunting" range. I can say more about this rifle and about the service received from Archer Airguns...quality above all!
I will try to find the steel tank or a 3.5 oz... i still like the look of the paintball tank better.

actually i was able to coax the 9 oz. in and now it looks insane!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! is like a baby BSA superten...(hopeful thinking, lol) i am in never ending shot count heaven. It does give it a tougher look, now i'll camouflage the tank and use a bipod. it will be the perfect bird sniper gun. It is going to get a lot of use. give me a bit and i'll review it if amyone is interested and i can figure how to load pics on the forum...
