Well I home tuned my Big Cat this afternoon Deburred all of the sharp edges and they are all sharp edges. Filed the spring ends smooth. Polished the guides and compression chamber . Cleaned everything up and lubed everything by the book.
Found that the main spring has a slight kink and the piston seal has a nicked area directly in line with slot in the bottom of the tube. Since it was shooting OK, I reassembled the rifle and will now order some after market piston seals and another spring. This maintenance really made a difference in the way the AG sounds when fired (twang is gone) and everything is so much smoother. It was really nasty inside.
This is my question? In which direction does the bolt turn to remove the barrel assembly from the compression tube???? I tired left to loosen but it refused to budge. I then tried to the right direction , no movement. I feel that I used enough reasonable torque that the bolt should have broke free. I stopped when I noticed the torx bit failing ( actuallly 2 bits). Do I need some sort of impact driver? What suggestions are out there. I don't want to strip the bolt.

"Righty tighty,...Leafty loosey" LOL's. Try tapping the end of your driver with a small hammer while applying leftward/counter-clockwise pressure on the bolt head. Just a few firm taps to see if you can break the hold,...but not too hard!!! Apply more pressure before you start whacking it a bit harder. This should free it up without stripping the head of the bolt. Good luck.tjk

Thomas , I tried that with no results . I just want to make sure that to the left is correct in the situation.
Thanks for a quick reply. If there are any others who have had a difficult bolt on an AG barrel and how they solved it please chime in.

I had the same problem with gamos.I belive they use the red loctite on them and in that case it will have to be heated in order to break it loose.

With all due respect to you spark22 DON'T heat.I had the same problem with my Super Streak.I heated it to loosen the bolt and toasted the nylon spacers.If you can get or borrow a impact driver that will do the trick,broke mine free instantly after days of trying all the other tricks.

I used a impact driver and sheared off the screw slot I gave up getting it off after that.I was thinking of using a mini tourch to just heat the bolt end would do the trick with out overheating eveything else.

Question: Why do you want to remove the barrel? Usually from what I've read, doing a tune, you don't need to do that.

I wanted to clean and re-lube the pivot and bolt. Also the barrel has loosened up to the point that when the AG is cocked it flops down without any resistance.
