This is the 33rd weekend of the 2009 calendar year. Why don't we start numbering all matches according to the weekend number? I am getting confused.
So, any matches ending this Sunday will be Wk #33 - Steroid, Wk# 33 - 10 M Match Target Pistol, etc.
Just a suggestion.
-
Great idea. Or, give Sunday as the date of the match. I don't know what week this is but I do know how many days until Christmas, the press won't let you forget.
-
That is something you guys will have to get together on as a group. Bill and Stan have been doing allot of work on these forums as well as others. I personally would like to see these forums grow even larger and see more members participating in the different events.
-
Hello Tommy my FRIEND !!!!
I respect you opinion, but the match number represents the number of matches that we have held, for that particular shooting event. If every match had the same match number, I think it would make it even more confusing.
And only you and GOD knows that this is week #33 !
By the way, dates are included on every match notification.
Now, I'm only one member here, and if the membership wishes to do anything a different way, it fine with me. just expect a few mistakes until I adjust to it :-)

I like and don't like the idea. I get confused about the matches as well, but I also like knowing how many have been shot. I'd have had no idea I've been shooting in the vast majority of 25yd open sight matches without the actual match number. When I'd name my target photos, I used to include the match number, but lately it's been easier just to put in the date itself.
Hmmm... I've been no help at all. I guess I'd prefer to keep the match numbers involved somehow? I'm with Bill... I had no idea it was week 33. I like knowing that now, but I just don't think of the year that way.

Keep the ideas coming....anything to make it easier for the participants to keep track of the matches are welcome.
Here's another one in-between TCups' and the current method; Match Number (1 to 5 (The first Sunday, second Sunday etc.)), Month and Year. So for example, in the month of August we have 5 Sundays which falls on the 2nd, 9th, 16th, 23rd and the 30th......so the matches could be titled as;
Match# 1, Aug. 2009
Match# 2, Aug. 2009 etc. and when we get to Sept.;
Match#1, 6 Sept. 2009 (The day is included in this version)
Match#2, 13 Sept. 2009 etc.
This way the match numbers will not go too high....which is abit hard to follow if someone are not shooting every match.....and each match is matched with it's date and month.

Geeze -- I really wanted to just make things simpler. Bill does a wonderful job already -- Thank you, sir. I just figured consecutive numbers the same for every match would be easier. But the way things are are just fine, really. And the last thing I want to do is to make any more work for Bill.
As for seeing how you have done, any of us can pretty easily go back through the old posts if we need to, I reckon.

This post has got me thinking lol:) I am all for making it easier, So long as the ones doing the work are ok with it:) To me the match number is the way I am keeping a record...I don't really mind if it were to change to week of the year numbering all the same to me I.e. week for all matches would be the 33 rd week matches, I can adjust if needed.
My initial thought was that this 33 rd week idea may cause more confusion ( plus as I get older I hate to change once I get used something, I am used to the way it is:)) however when I gave it more thought, I recall being confused back when I started these matches! It did not seem uniform, what I mean is ( there are 4 different matches in the general forum and all different positions and distances, the multi pump pistol as an example it is the only one in that forum and there-for easier to find and post. not all matches have there own spot so to speak)
If someone were to just want to do.. say compete in the 25 yd open sight, it is harder to find and mixed in with the other matches. This may be a problem if the matches grow into something Bigger and more people in each match, less chance of a wrong post location and juggling all in one forum. It could be that one day each match has one person looking after that perticular forum to lighten the load for all :) May be more people would participate if easier to find as a seperate forum ?...
Please note this is just my 2 cents worth on possible making it all easier and not a critique. I am extremely grateful to all who pull this together and very happy to be included in this forum:) Tony.

I don't know if this would make the identification of matches easier ??? But, say we call the matches, Match #1, August,2009
Match #1 - August 2009, or August, 09 - Match #1 ????
Would a format like this help make things easier ???
And if we would like a separate forum for each match, I will need to contact Brother Gene to see if that is possible or probable.
I hate to say this, but there are weeks that I have to look at my calendar just to find out the date ! Of ALL the things that I have LOST, I MISS MY MIND THE MOST !

I'll throw thought or 2 in.
1. I don't care how they are numbered :-) I get lost in the shuffle no matter what.
2. The forums really are not used for too much other than the matches, and some of the forums have been idle for a while - why not do a forum per match (as mentioned) and have a general forum for target and target shooting discussions. To keep in clean we'd need to collapse the current ones and move all the threads. That part sounds painful.
3. In the forum per match set up, have 3 sitckies each. One for the target and rules and One for the CURRENT weeks match scores and one for the PRIOR weeks results.
4. I herby volunteer to help in anyway I can, even moving things around if I can be trusted with the right access on a temporary basis.
Do we have any programmers around? It would be great if each of us could log our own info and scores into a database that had some tracking ability... I could build one in excel or access but have no idea how to get it to interact with a web forum or if it's even possible.
-
I can always re name the Forums if that would help.
-
Yes, I like the one forum per match setup. Great idea!

I like the forum for each type match idea. Easy to go back and find what you did earlier. Right now I got a big cheat sheet pinned to my wall to remind me of the rules and number of shots, then have to dig around to find the scores so I can score them. 1 place, 1 thread per match all on the same match forum would be easy.
Let me know, I'm up for change. Scratch that, I'm up for re-aligning the way we post scores.......
-
I like the one forum for one match also.....easier for the participants and very much easier if a new member wants to try out the shooting matches. And JQR`s idea or having 3 stickies per forum is great. At the moment.....the Target ShootingGeneral forumis the one with the confusion because of 5 different matches going on. The other matches i.e.; CO2 Pistol, Target Pistol, Multi Pump Rifle, Rested PCP Rifle and Multi Pump Pistol are fine because they only have THEIR "Post" and "Results".....less distractions.
-
If you guys ever get it together on what you want. Just send me a list of the forum existing names and what you would prefer the new names to be I would be glad to alter them to your overall liking..
-
I'll pick up scoring an additional match from ya Big-Bill. Pick one and let me know. I think it is about to get easy with them divided up and plain to see. (how about the 30 yrd bench for non PCP?)
Dumb question: Why is it on some threads you have to reply to the first one and on others it's not? Some just show up in a straight line as a continuance of the first post and some show up individual below the first post.
-
I agree with those who have mentioned the idea of separate forums for each match. There are several inactive forums that could be renamed and maybe add a couple if necessary. We have four rifle matches and one pistol match in this General forum and it would simplify things if each had its own home. And it might help promote more discussion in the general forum.
I realize making a change would be a lot of work for the administrators and moderators.....but, that's why you guys make the big bucks ! !
Anything I can do to help, just call on me.
Therman
And if no change is made, I'll still be here shooting this week.
-
Looking at the Target Gates, here are five that are inactive or do not host current matches:
Springer Rifle Target Gate - some infrequent discussion, no matches
Springer Pistol Target Gate - no matches
CO2 Air Rifle Target Gate - no matches
Single Pump Air Rifle Target Gate - no matches
Single Pump Air Pistol Target Gate - inactive, no current matches
Without stepping on anyone's toes, the five matches in the Target General forum could be moved without increasing the overall size of the Forum.
....or we could do something else.....or not....heck, I'm easy to please.

Therman,
I think you may be onto something and if not stepping on toes, no need to have unused forums especially if its easier for the computer gurus to just rename them with a forum we use:)
I will say that I did try the single pump rifle match a few times to keep the dust off my 853 and would try it again ? if others are interested in that one, no big deal though. I am also happy with anything else and easy to please, Tony.
BTW I also think Ron's comment on the way forums are posted is good, I do like the continuous scroll type posting ...makes it fun to look through the target posts:)
