I just picked one up and it has what I thought a muzzle brake on the end. Upon further inspection it is really just a barrel weight. It looked like there was a set screw holding it on but when I looked in there didn't appear to be a screw. Were these muzzle weights press fit on? How do I get one off?
Thanks.

They're not really press fit. More like a tight slip fit.
Not sure how you'd get one off though. Maybe it's glued on?

From Archer's >> In Archer Airguns testing this muzzle brake has the effect of reducing the 10-shot group size by 50%! We're not sure why, maybe it's something to do with barrel harmonics, but the effect is real in our tests. It adds 8 ounces of weight to the front of the gun, making it feel more natural to those of us used to fully-stocked military rifles. This muzzle brake also looks very cool.
This muzzle brake should be secured to the barrel with epoxy. The deep blue finish blends well with the blued barrel. Normally, the front sight must be removed from the barrel for this brake to fit, so it's recommended for use with scoped guns only. There is no perceptible change in sound made by the QB78 when shooting with this muzzle brake attached.

On my QB2078 it has a slotted set screw on the muzzle weight and to remove it you must take off the front sight mot very hard to do. howie

Yeah. No set screw at all. I'm thinking of hitting it lightly with a torch to break the epoxy and wrestle it off. Anyone think that's a bad idea? I'm not going to get it glowing, just heated up...

Maybe a heat gun if ya gots access... 8)

Epoxy and locktight can be loosened with heat I would think a torch will work better than a heat gun I don't think a heat gun will get hot enough and you will need a piece of aluminum or brass to use as a drift to drive the muzzle weight off if you use wood it will not be strong enough to do the job also the drift should be softer than the muzzle break this way you should be able to get it off and still be able to use it sometime later. also this brings up the problem of scratches you are going to need to touch up the bluing with some cold blue. howie

Hi Andy my 2078 has a hole in the muzzle weight and it has a slotted set screw in it maybe that is what is you are looking for I looked for a alan screw but found a slotted screw try a very small screw driver . howie
