: Got a Discovery/pump today!
: anuthabubba January 19, 2010, 12:20:46 PM
Bought it second hand from a guy who "only shot it about 100 rounds" and it looks brand new. Came with the pump that also looks brand new. He said after having it in the gun cabinet for about a year he was gonna sell it to help fund an R1 to feed his springer hunger. Shot it a couple times at ~1000psi to test the function and then pumped it to 2100psi. Not too difficult.

This thing is deceptively puny looking. The trigger is not as 'bad' as I was expecting after reading about it on the various forums. The size is good for me 'cause I'm small framed.

Now to acquire the bits (springs/screws for power adj., trigger stuff, barrel bands/brake) to do some tweaking as described here and elsewhere. Looks like the transfer port might be too tall because the muzzle points up without the band.

"...and we'll have fun, fun, fun, 'til her Daddy takes the T-Bird awaaaay."

Congrat's and the new baby and the Disco's are great shooter's along with being a superb hunting machine. Ed

Thanks, Ed.

It will be used as a hunter/pester. I have used springers since about '80 and had (still have) a couple of Daystate pcps since about '90. Haven't shot the Daystates for a decade or so though because of the hassle (150 mile round trip) getting my three scuba tanks filled/maintained.  The springers and Daystates are also much heavier than the Disco. Have recently arranged, with a local Fire Chief, to get my compressed air so I'll be getting at least one current tank and will reseal the Daystates. They are .177 and the Disco is .22.

This site has been very informative regarding getting the most from a Discovery.

Finally got to shoot through my Chrony Beta today. Found the sweet spot on this completely stock Disco to be between 1800psi and 1000psi giving 23 shots avg. 800fps/20fpe. Just what I was looking for! About 45 pumps to recharge.  Also did the lower lever pivot point trigger mod and exchanged a cut/doubled ink pen spring for the stock trigger spring. The trigger is much lighter now.

Noticed some vertical barrel misalignment and discovered the bolt block was held up by the transfer port bushing. Stoned it down the depth of the bevel, rebeveled it with some improvement but it is still too tall. Gonna shim the gap to make a more rigid mating/fit between these two parts. So far the tiny attachment screw is holding up. :o)

Shot a charge around the yard just sighting down the barrel (no sights mounted) and did okay after noting the right sight picture.Looking forward to getting some more parts to play with.

Some fun these Discos!

terry,...im still in the learning phase regarding my mac-1 tuned .22 disco. i bought a scuba tank from craigslist, a fill whip/adapter from the yellow and have been grinning like an idiot since.
ryan ( my son ) and i went out a couple weeks back and having no varmints to shoot, set up 12 oz water bottles at 100 yards................a couple mil-dots over the crosshairs and ryan was walking those 12 oz bottles around with the disco !
now im funding a .177 disco for him as well.
it may not be as refined as the marauder, or other hi-end pcp's , but you cant beat the bang for the buck it offers !!

On my second attempt to 'trim down' the height of the transfer port bushing enough for the bolt block and air tube to mate up properly, I seem to have taken too much off. First try I didn't take enough. There is a leak on discharge. I'll order a new bushing or two along with a few other small parts to tweak the Disco some. At least the two major parts mate together as they should and the barrel is now level and evenly spaced lengthwise with the air tube.

In the mean time I'm gonna shoot it anyway. That is when I get some time off. Will Chrony again it to see how that leak affects it.

Had a few minutes today to Chrony the Disco. Seems to have lost only a few fps to the leak. Still has some striker/sear drag though. If I squeeze the trigger slowly it loses about 30fps compared to when I pull it fast and completely to the end of its travel. More later.
