I've been considering an underlever upgrade for a while, and was going to go TX200 or HW97, but now I am thinking B40 unless I get a tremendous deal on one of the others. Reviews I have read seem to make it more of a 'Richard' choice. One thing I have not been able to find out much about is the 'built in sound suppression'. I did a search and looked on Xisico's site, but I must be missing it. I am guessing it imitates the suppression on the TX200...but wonder about the schematics.

The B-40 has a barrel shroud like the TX 200. It is a quiet spring gun but it is not Marauder quiet. Since the internals and the stocks are interchangeable in great part I would think that the schematics of the two rifles are quite similar. I don't know if the shroud do much to suppress muzzle noise on springers. I've had a .177 B40, now have a .22 TX200, most of the noise is from the spring power plant. TX200 quieter than my B40, in my case, as my TX feels and sound tuned, the B40 was untuned and sounded like a cheap sprinter. Both are no quieter than my stock HW30S if that helps.

I am not so concerned with the suppression as interested in the workings of the design. Disappointed you feel it sounded like a 'cheap' springer... I hadn't heard any comments like that previously. Can you elaborate?

I'm currently working with mike melick and howie on a b40. Because money is a issue its my best bet I figure a tune b40 is 80% the tx 200 and I probaly won't shoot it much and it may end up a closet queen knowing this I dropped out the tx200 race and opted for the b40 I been looking at these two for a couple months now and if u tune one and mod the stock u will still be cheaper than the tx now if I find one in my price range its bought the cheapest I seen is a used beech stock .22 cal for $512.00 at. I only mean that it sounds like a low priced springer, not sure how to describe it, basically like most untuned lower priced springer, as opposed to something like a R97 or TX200. I'm sure it would sound and feel smoother with a tune. It was an accurate gun though, more accurate than I can shoot it, and probably not far from a TX. I read a lot of posts on the B40, and one thing that came out is it has a lot of potential, but at the same time the quality control can be a bit lax, so that some will get a great gun, and some won't. I also noticed, at the time I looked into this about two years ago, seemed like people didn't hold on to them for long. I know there's a lot of trading even with good guns, but the B40 seemed even more often. PA stopped carrying them because too many were coming back.
I wouldn't pay full price for what the new TXs are going for now, but I got a like new used Mark 3 in .22 with a nice-figured walnut stock, Centerpoint 44mm 4x12 compact scope with side wheel and rings, for $575 shipped. This is an accurate gun, will hit a vitamin tablet everytime if I do my part at 25 yards, but some B40's will do that too. It comes down to what a person wants in a gun. My B40 was one of the better examples, nice trigger--good as a HW Record. no major problem, just a minor issue with the anti-beartrap lever's hinge pin that is ready to fall out. Basically my B40 was like a Ford Taurus that got a bad paint job (mine had a so so bluing job and also was mismatched where the breech joined the compression tube), it will get you where you want to go pretty reliably, whereas my TX is like a BMW 535 that's probably no more reliable, but you get that ride and handling, and tight over the road feel, that just isn't in the Ford no matter how much money you put into it. Some closer toleranced B40's after a good tune can probably come close to the smoothness of even a tuned TX, but besides the trigger, mine wasn't one of those. Another thing is I paid about $280 for my B40 and to me not a good value at that price, if it were around $180 to 200 I probably would've kept it and put some work into it. I'm not trying to put the B40 down, just a matter of personal preference and priorities.

If I could find a tx 200 that fits my budget I would go that route but looking at posts and going to different sites about the b40 while it might not be a bmw my budget is for a ford unless I find a used beemer for sale by far the tx200 is superior but a b40 that's tuned might be a ford mustang in disguise lol but I'm still looking for a tx deal so we will see.

There was an ad today in American Airguns classifieds, older style stock .177 carbine in excellent condition for I think $375 plus shipping. Ad is deleted now, don't know if it's sold or deleted by moderator as being a scam (price almost too good to be true). Seller offered a 3200 scope and rings for an extra $100. Excellent condition TXs usually go for around $450 shipped for beech stock, quite a few came up last year, walnut lot harder to come by and $50 to $75 more, not sure about lately I haven't been watching the ads for a while. Great deal came up on Gunbroker last year too, old beech style stock pro tuned TX with good scope went for around $500. I feel bad for that seller for getting so little if his description was accurate. I might have went for it if I didn't already have one.

Well I have a B40 177 i got from Mike Melick. I just love the thing. This weekend a buddy and I were shooting the heads off of tiny plastic dinosaurs at 23 yards (the dino's head is about the size of a 5mm ball!)
MM made her really smooth and I kept the stock spring. Single hole groups all day. The B26 I had couldn't hold a candle to the B40 in either accuracy or handling.
It is louder than a tuned R7. And quieter than an R9. It's quiter than a B26 as well. I gave the B26 to my cousin, but I'll keep the B40 forever.
The fit and finish on the B40 is good, but not on par with a TX. For that matter, LilysDad here on GTA won a Field Target match with a B40, and the 2nd place shooter had a Theoben.

Bumbleshot that was sweet I know its not a tx by far but I've heard some good things about the b-40 and honestly any gun mike melick touches are smooth as silk

From what I can gather, Mr Melick turned a custom top-hat, a spring sleeve and cross hatch. The MM B40 is smoother than my stock R9. And has no buzz. The R9 is a tad harsh in the firing, but smooth as silk charging it up. The B40 had some issues at first due to shipping damage, and Mike went above and beyond to sort that out.
I would probably sell my R9 off before the B40. That's how much I love it. Mike also tuned and buttoned the piston in my R7 .177. Another rifle I will never sell.
That says a lot. The B40 after Mike is right there with my R9 and R7. The B26 hadn't worked out. But the B26 is harvesting many squirrels on my cousins homestead in PA. Actually, my cousin is really pleased with the B26. As he put it, "I see a lot of bleeding and dying out there..." I just couldn't shoot single hole groups with the B26. But I can with my other rifles.
Do yourself a favor. Get a B40! You won't regret it.
EDIT Just a quick edit, my B40's fave pellet is cardboard box CPL. That is a huge bonus. It hates Predators but in a .177 rifle Predators are not really needed if it can shoot another great pellet. It also shoots CPLHPs with a slightly larger group if you have to buy pellets at WallyChina.

Oh, you don't have to sell me on the B40...it is a matter of WHEN not if, especially as I have gotten rid of my only other underlever. I was really just looking for information about the design of the suppression. But thanks for your additional enthusiasm about the gun! Certainly good to hear of your experience.

Just received a tuned B40 in .177 (custom guide, JM spring and seal). Only put about ten shots through it for function testing, then shot my tuned 34 for comparison. The B40 was much quieter. Not silent but maybe half the 34. Shot cycle was very solid. I was wondering if it needs a scope stop it's that smooth. Just shooting less sights at twenty feet and it actually grouped a bit. If they are all like this, I would recommend one.

That one was great Redfeather im thinking of what cal to get cause im a .22 type of person and i olny have one .177 which is the b26 and its awsome for my useage .Many people prefer the .177 for the b40 so im trying to decide cause my wife is trying to get one for me for my birthday which lands in april so im still not ready but it will be the b40 .The good thing is u dont need a compressor to open it which will be a plus to those inclined machanically.i will have mine by early may ,hopefully i could hear more from u as far as reviews r concern ,God Bless u and your Family ...jorge lopez

The HW30S is definitely quiet. Then again, it's less powerful than the B40. Not that I'd ever be willing to let my HW30S go. If you get a B40, get a Maccari tune kit and seals. Or get MM to tune it with such. My B30 is MUCH quieter since I tuned it with MM parts.

I've been tempted to sell my .22 MM tuned B40 but I'm not sure if I can. It's a short, heavy gun that's also a great shooter. Mine likes RWS Superdomes.
