: Got my Replacement XL in today.
: StrawHat May 25, 2010, 03:32:45 PM
Did a little chrony work after cleaning the barrel and installing the Great III trigger. First off the trigger really supprized me. After the looooonnng pull of my last one this is a dream.
I tried to copy and paste some info from a excel. But as you can see It didn't work.
In order of pellets.
H&N Rabbit Mags 24.64 g-Max 766, Min 473, Avg 703.
JSB Diabolo Exact Heavy 18.1 g-Max 960, Min 858, Avg 893
H&N Barracuda Match 21.14 g-Max 793, Min 772, Avg 781
H&N Crow Mag 18.21 g-Max 827, Min 796, Avg 812
Predator 16 g-Max 900, Min 832, Avg 860
Beeman Silver Arrow 17.1 g-Max 818, Min 790, Avg 804
Gamo Rocket 14.3 g-Max 907, Min 885, Avg 899
JSB Match Diabolo Exact Jumbo RS 13.43 g-Max 843, Min 792, 821

Well, I have a lot of spread on some of these, I am hoping that it will settle down as she breaks in.

Don't be dissapointed when those numbers go down. I think you have some dieseling going on, especially with numbers like 960 on your JSB 18's. Even an average of 893 is real high. Mine shot them at 800 average after 500 shots.Your spread will come down too.

Agreed, numbers that high and with that much spread would lead me to believe dieseling also. Mine averages 787 with Jumbo heavies, and 826 with Preds. Others report doing in the low to mid 800's with Preds.

And with some of those extream spreads I wouldn't rule out the possability of a bad seal.

Shoot more ... lots more !!!!  :D

Hope you enjoy this one !

My last one was doint 830 with the preds and I hadn't shot the Jumbo heavies before. So far there has  been only 80 pellets down the barrel. I am looking at putting a tin or so through today. I will re chrony after a while and things should settle down some.

Yeah, it kinda got my attention thatthe output was VERY wide, from 20-32 fpe. WAY too much of a spread in power out. Impressive if it were to stable out at 32+ fpe. I'm curious to see the numbers after a few tins have been run through it. (http://../jscripts/tiny_mce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-smile.gif)

Keep us informed and Happy Shooting!!!!

does that have a gas piston? i didnt think they diesel.

I believe that the dieseling has more to do with oil or other combustables in the compression chamber ingniting. It will quit when it is cleaned out.

The B.B. Pelletier, Tom Gaylord, wrote a very good 4 part review of the XL1100. See it here. (http://airgun-academy.pyramydair.com/blog/2010/03/benjamin-trail-np-xl1100-part-4-2/)[/b][/i]

Here's an excerpt from part 2 about dieseling.

Shooting behavior
The rifle lunges forward with the shot, just like any super magnum air rifle. Thankfully, it has a Weaver base, so scope mounting shouldn’t be a problem. The noise still seems very low, especially given the power.

And it dieseled with every shot during this test. Please understand the terminology I’m using. Dieseling is present in all powerful spring guns on every shot. It is NOT the loud explosion you hear with the shot. That is called a detonation. The Benjamin Trail did not detonate even once during this test. We expect a gun like this to diesel, and it does. It also exhausts a lot of smoke because it is new. That should diminish in a couple hundred shots.

Well, the replacement is going back. I found a broken plastic piece in the cocking linkage where it joins the piston. It looks like I will be sending a check along with the rifle and getting a Marauder instead.
