: Dovetail question
: cmdrstp May 25, 2010, 04:10:33 PM

Hello, all. How are you? Good, I hope.

Well, I got my new scope for my Gamo Big Cat 1200  in the mail today. A Leapers AccuShot Swat Classic 3-12 X 44 30mm Tube Mil-Dot Range Estimating Parallax Adjustable Rifle Scope (non-illuminated) (TS Strength Platform). I am happy with the glass. Very clear and bright. Much better than the stock scope. I also ordered a BKL 1-piece mount (4" / 6 base screws) as it was recommended for it's hold strength.

It is quite a large scope (full size). Should I have any concerns with the above purchases install on a 11mm dovetail? Will a dovetail provide a secure mount. I ask as I am not used to dovetails with my firearms. And, you all have the experience.

Thank you.

Stephen

You are good to go. Just don't over-tighten the mount when you install it on the dovetail on the tube. HTH

Thank you, Speedturtle.

I received the BKL mount today. Seems quite "beefy" and secure with the 6 base screws. Nothing flimsy , as I can tell so far, about this mount.

I am dying to install but, I am holding off till I can get a tune by Shadow....if my truck stops breaking things!  :emoticon:

With the GRT-III trigger plate, scope/mount upgrades, and tune, I can't wait to see the results.

It is nice to be able to come home and relax with the cheap shooting. Especially with the way ammo prices have skyrocketed. These days, I look at my ammo supply as something to reserve rather than shoot. Sad. Remember when you could buy a brick of .22 LR for under $10?! This air rifle still satisfies one's trigger finger.

I well remember $10 brick's, good heaven's must of been all of 1 or 2 year's ago(I think right before new president?)lol Lucky for me I am a ammo nut & have several thousand( or more) in reserve!!went yesterday an shot a brick ,first powder I burned in a month or so,these air gun's are addicting so easy to walk out in yard an enjoy trigger time. But really Stephen go ahead an mount up your set, even if it's only a week or two.I pulled mine off for tune & an when I replaced it, it was only off by a click or two? luck I don't know,it did surprise me,but hey it's not that hard any how( OH shoot I forgot about OCD)lol I enjoy teaseing you bro.!!! an brick's are down to 15/18 $ here in ohio.500 or so .22lr & 150 .45 a.c.p. I still love powder in my nose!!!

LOL, Jay! I lost actually count but, I have 25 ammo cans filled with an assortment of calibers. My prized being 1200 rounds of M2 Ball.  $20 for a brick (of my favorite) here in upstate New York. And, so true, nothing fully replaces burnt powder.

I agree, it's the ease of walking outside a shooting airguns that is relaxing. No trips to the range.

You convinced me, I will set it up till I have to mail it out for the tune. How can someone with OCD not?! LOL.
