: MODS ON MAGNETIC PELLET TRAP
: PALTIK April 01, 2008, 11:00:48 AM
Just did some mods on a the industry brand magnetic pellet trap. The trap itself is large that's why I bought it. Costed only $26.
Did some tinkering on it to make it sturdier and better. Cost of mods only $10.83.
I bought all of the materials at Lowe's.
This is a copy of the Walther magnetic trap costing $80!

Here is the Industry Brand Magnetic Pellet trap

good job Pal Thanks.
I'll know what to do if mine ever breaks. I've been shooting it for over 6 months without any failures aside from the occasional bent duck.Dam  Friends with .22's I told them to shoot at the 20 yard target and leave the 15 yard one for the .177's

Sure Gene! But this is easy to do! Prolly took me less than an hour.
All the materails I got where just cut or drilled.
What took me a longer time was looking for the right materials at Lowe's 'cuz I didn't know where everything was!
The aluminum strip that sandwiches the reset bar was just cut in half for the two sides and just holes drilled for the longer screws.
I didn't mess with the width or cut it to width 'coz the aluminum I got from lowe's fit perfectly!
As for the copper tubing, those also fit perfectly. All I did was cut them to the varying lengths as needed.
Actually the plastic reset bar on mine broke in the middle. It's a blessing in disguise 'coz if not for that I wouldn't have thought of doing this.
I still would want to attach a thicker circular G.I. sheet on the targets itself so that it won't get bent if a powerful airgun hit it.
Also, bending the targets a little to the back so it would be at a slant/angle would help in projecting most of the power of the pellet upwards so the target won't absob it smack-on and just kinda deflect it.
I would also like to paint the ducks a bright orange or red with a white circular center and the reset target yellow.
I hope I finish my QB57 next 'coz that one keeps getting shelved becuase of not enough time or materials for the scope mount!
If anyone has problems or would need a more detailed walk-through of this project...don't hesitate to PM or ask me.

Neat idea! Where can I get one of those traps?

Those traps are being sold on-line by South Summit.
If you noticed, I put some masking tape also on some ends of the weight of the duck targets. I did this 'coz some of the targets had the weight on one side so the ducks kinda tended to be lopsided.
I balanced them out with some additional masking tape (or additional taped weights if you like) on the ends that needed weight to balance the other end out.
Makes the ducks spin more easily on the rod and are well balanced.
You could search for a better price on this traps by searching INDUSTRY BRAND MAGNETIC PELLET TRAP.
Gamo sells a more compact design of this but you also have to mod it the same way..and it is also much pricier.
Walther also sells the original of this one which industry brand copied.
Here's a YOU TUBE link of how it works:

South Summit sells all of the traps I metioned here, you can take your pick as to the price and make you want.
