I've got a B-3, that has been through many changes in the last couple of years. I recently did a reblue, that didn't turn out as well as I had hoped. I was thinking of trying to blue it again, but I find that I really like the look of the polished metal. What would be the best way to preserve, the bare polished metal? I was thinking about spraying it with an automotive clearcoat and then a good coat of wax. Or would the wax alone work? Any other suggestions?

Wax might work, although it probably would require retreatment fairly often . . .

Thanks J. There's a shop less than 3miles away that has the Miltec 1 in stock. Would about 250deg 10-15min in the oven, work for heating? I think this B is going to look sweet chrome.

Hey, Mike, I use furniture wax (Minwax) on the beds of my shop tools, table saw, jointer, etc.  Helps keep them rust free, and stuff slides well.  I do need to reapply on a regular basis, depending on how much use they get.  Another product I've used for the same purpose is BoeSheild, a metal preservative/protectant produced by the Boing company for aircraft.  It supposedly penetrates and bonds to the metal.  Don't know how either would work on guns, though.  Let us know what you end up doing.  Later.

Thanks Dave, I thought that a good wax may work, if reapplied once or twice a month. I picked up some MilTech and am going to try it. may last longer and should be easier to maintain. I did realize earlier that now I'm going to have to refinish the stock too, chrome would look better on a darker stock.

Mike, I’m looking forward to seeing how yours turns out.  It may inspire me to do the same  to one of my B3s.  What you have done so far looks pretty good.  Let’s face it, the Chinese don’t put a lot of effort in bluing the B3s.  So with a little effort you can make one of these ugly ducklings turn out to be a sweet looking shooter.

Have seen independent test results of various metal protectors. The Boeing developed product labeled "BoeShield" outperformed all competitors. It is available in an aerosol can.

I googled the BoeShield and it looks like it would be easier to use, but I haven't found anybody locally that has it. I'll just use the MilTech for now. Thanks for all of the help guy's and I'll try to post a pic, before I leave tomorrow.

I followed the link and read everything on their site. I was about to order two pints and it dawned on me "Am I paying $30+ per quart of witches brew?" The site was a bit intoxicating. Fumbling to back out of the order I accidentally ordered the two quarts. So this stuff I pd $60?   better be at least as good as Corrosion-x which is pretty dam good. I'll have enough to do all my guns, some vehicles, motorcycles, lawn mower,(why not?) maybe i'll try it as a pellet lube?

It works real well, I put some on my polished up B-3 last week and after ALOT of handling it still looks like it did the day I put it on. I think your gonna have enough to pass along to the grandkids, a couple of drops will coat an entire rifle.

So far the results have all been very favorable, just use care with o-rings, since I've had a couple of them swell a bit. Wasn't a problem forabolt seal, as it snugged it a little, but I could see havingsomeproblems with other types of breech seals being over sized.
