Sight Help
« on: December 29, 2009, 10:56:29 AM »
My wife bought my son in law a pellet pistol for Christmas.  It is an inexpensive one from Compessco.  The problem I'm having with it is with the sights. I can't get them to adjust to where it will hit the target.  It shoots about 4" high.

I'm pondering going to Lowe's tomorrow and getting some new longer screws and shimming the sight up about a 1/4".  The front sight is fixed.

Does that sound like a plan or should I consider something else?  It has two small screws holding it on.

If it's a flat blade type rear sight, you could try making a "add-on" blade out of plastic. You might want to check with Compasseco as well, to see if they have an alternate blade.

The shimming thing doesn't sound bad either... if you can do it evenly without "gappage".

Just some dude... move along, nothing to see here.

It's a well-known issue with the little S2-1X pistols, and i'm not aware of any quick fix.  I've thought of JB Welding a pin to the front of mine, but never actually gotten around to it.  You need to make the front sight taller or the rear sight lower, so I don't think that shimming will work.  At least it won't on mine as the rear sight is already sitting directly on the barrel.  I also thought of filing down the rear sight, but again never got around to it.

Keep us informed if you come up  with an elegant solution.

It appears to be pretty stout, and that front sight is a bit sharpish.  I'd love to do the same thing.  Could you explain how you did it?

Couldn't you just file down the front sight?

Front sights are backwards

No, you have to raise the front sight to bring the impact point down.  Remember that you move the front sight opposite of how you want the pellet impact to change.

Good information!  I can probably add some height to it by using styrene plastic or epoxy putty and paint it black.

Sorry about not getting back sooner but I had to format the computer ran into some problems with the thing, as far as bending the barrel I just use a vice padding the barrel and  3 spacers to be able to bend it one in the middle and 2 one on each end give it a bend  that way you can put pressure on the middel then see how it shoots if it shoots good fine if not just bend it more. When the gun shoots high and you can't adjust the sights any more you need to raise the front sight that is a problem since must mtls you could use to build the sight up will not last. howie
