Newbie with a RS2 combo
« on: March 23, 2010, 12:34:53 PM »
Greetings i just got a RS2 combo and have been lurking around the board and the web looking for info tips etc. Now I'm ready to ask a couple questions. Like most guys when i get something i have to hop it up... So i want to disassemble and tune it up a bit. I saw a article on reworking the contact points of the trigger mech. They call for polishing the contact areas, what should be used to do it? And are there any better springs that can be used in these cheaper guns?  And my two barrels have sights on them, not the muzzbreaks that i have seen on some RS2 barrels. Anybody know how to remove them? I would like to install muzzbreaks, I like the look plus i will use the scope all the time.
And one last question, I need a better scope, and mounts what are my options with this gun?
You know Ive had guns since i was 11. Got a 22 rifle for Xmas and I'm 55 now. but its a whole new thing with these. Shooting is way different, you have to kind of re-learn how to shoot. I'm having a little trouble hitting what I'm shooting at. I zeroed the scope in at about 25 yards. But when i took it to my Buddy's house i couldn't hardly hit  a ground squirrel across the street at the park.  So i need to start from scratch tune the gun up, and re-scope it and go from there.
I thank all for the stuff I've learned just looking around the site and the links provided.
Thanks
Tony

Welcome to GTA Tony, on my RS2 trigger tune...I just used a honing stone to make it smoke in the direction of the action. Files take out too much metal and may make it unsafe in over done. If your RS2 is shooting low, you might need to shim your O-ring, I used 3 wounds of dental floss just to raise it for proper seal. Don't put too much or you will have lock-up problem or droop. The mount that came with is crap, need to replace it with a single mount mount to hold it in place. From your zero of 25 yrds, 20-30 yrds should be your flat spot. anything over that will hit low. I zeroed mine to 10yrds so my next zero is 45 yrds, with that..anything less that 10 will hold over and the rest is under until right on at 45 yrds. It's beneficial to have a mil-dot scope if your range varies.

Tony,
For lots of RS2 info, click on the search button and enter "Beeman RS2" and select year for time period.
I've saved the trigger and tune up info but forget what the links were.  If you don't find the trigger/tune info let me know and I'll send it to your PM as an attachment.

I used blue loctite on stock scope mounts and no problems since.
Crosman hollow points seems to shoot well with it as do the 'bb-pointed'' Gamo pellets. Stay clear of the Daisy pointed pellets. The Daisy flats do well however.
I used a thicker o-ring for a breech seal. Got it at Advance Auto. Think I just got an 8mm o-ring. Nothing blowing out around the seal now.
I think Beeman advises teflon tape on the barrel screw(the one you take out to change the barrels) so you can easily remove it. I also loctited the stock/barrel bolts in.
I backed out the trigger adjuster like 1.5 turns.
Nice gun for the $$.

I used a hair dryer to heat the front site, then simply pulled it off.. The break looks better, will be handy for leverage & may actually improve accuracy slightly!  Mine did..

You may want to check your barrel set screw on the bottom of the pivot barrel block.  My dad's was loose and the barrel would slide 1/8" forward or back.  That would be like dry firing it.

This gun looks virtually identical to my Tech Force 89.  Same stock, same trigger, similar barrel pivot block.
