Centerpoint Adventure Class 4-16x40 AO TT MD IL Scope
« on: September 12, 2007, 09:52:52 AM »
Wanted a scope with more magnification than my Tasco Golden Antler 3-9x32 AO. Saw the Centerpoint at Wally World for $69.95; wanted to get a Bushnell or Browning(by Bushnell) as Natchez had a great price on them, however, work has been slow so I decided to try this one, Good thing I did as it required a new mount as  the Accushot  medium onepiece I have , rated to 45 mm objective, wasn't tall enough because the front bell has large ribs to adjust the AO. Went to Airguns of Arizona and Robert suggestedt a BKL #260 onepiece medium/high with a .004 drop/inch so as to not be too high, but save the elevation adjustment as I shoot Field Target. Pricey at $55, but has 6 clamp screws and with the built in droop, scope is almost perectly centered at 35 yards. Glass is bright and clear  at all magnifications and the AO yard markings are RIGHT ON from 5 to 45 yards( all the room I have to shoot with). I think the finish on the Golden Antler is better. It has a fine line and dots  MilDot reticle with red/green illumination that I haven't used yet, but it's easier to see than the Bushnell Legend I borrowed from Jim Russell to try. The elevation and windage turret knobs have good feeling and audible clicks, plus a locking knob feature to help maintain adjustments. Only down I see (other than it's "Made in China!)yet is that the enclosed slip-on flip-up lense covers barely  fit on the front due to clearance problems. A high mount would take care of that, but may make the scope too high above the cheekpiece for some, including me.

I believe this scope is only available at Walmart as it wasn't on the Centerpoint webpage, or any optics site I've been on. A couple of guys on the Airgun Sport Forum have it also and have had good success. As of now, I'd rate it as good a buy as the Tasco.

Ric, I've been looking at that scope, let us know how it holds up. It's on the heavy side, but the cross hairs are small and illum works great, tested 1 in the store.

Posted on a couple of other forums I didn't list here, Mike, and the responses there were all very favorable. I'm up to 300 pellets with it mounted now, no problems.

FWIW, Centerpoint has this scope on their site now, but they don't list all the specs there just yet.
Also, according to the blogger over at Pyramyd Air, B.B. Pelletier, Centerpoints ARE rebranded Leapers.
I also have this exact same scope on my .177 CFX, and it is quite good, and the illumination is a nice bonus.
Just keep in mind that hunting in low light would make the red instead of the green illuminator preferable, as red light does not close up your iris, thus preserving your night vision to make that shot.
My opinion on the green illuminator is that it would be the ticket for daylight shooting against a black background.
Also, this scope appears to be at the absolute maximum length to allow sufficient eye relief and enough room to load pellets.
Being able to adjust the w/e in the field, then lock both down with no special tools is a real plus here.
Oh, and it handles springer recoil just fine => over 2,000 shots and counting.
