REX 3-9 x40
« on: July 17, 2007, 05:56:41 AM »
I am looking at this scope to buy with BAM B26 .22cal.
The B26 is pretty much selected as a top contender, just would like to know if this scope is worth 90 bucks (at BestAirgun.com)
Any better glass out there within this budget?
Sure would appreciate your input on this, including the impulsive choice of B26 (only took me a week to decide).

Personally I don't think you can go wrong with a B26,,, I have 2 B26-2's (.177 and .22) and both of em are fantastic shooters.  As for the scope, I have no first hand experience with those scopes, but as for possible alternatives check out cheaperthandirt.com   ,,,, they usually have some good prices on scopes.  I would think you could do better price wise than $90 bucks on a good scope,,,, even if you went to pyramydair.com and use that never expiring 10% off coupon you should be able to do much better.  Just my opinion.

Natchez also usually has some good deals on scopes.  I like Leapers and BSA scopes and have had good success with both of em.

I'd have to agree with Jeff. I think for $90.00 you can do better than the Rex. With the 10% discount code @ Pyramid, you can buy an awful lot of Leapers scope for the money. Natchez is another good source for scopes. For $90.00 on Natchez you could put a Bushnell Banner 3-12 x 40 on you B26, mount not included. Optics Planet is another good source for scopes, and they usually include shipping in the price.

As far as mounts go, for a reasonably prce mount, I am very sold on the one piece Accushot mounts on Pyramid. They are strong, include a stop pin and are a bargain. A one piece Accushot, med. height is $15.99 before discount. If you want to go all out on mounts, I am sold on the BKL 260, 6 screw mount. Absoutely creep free, very well made and pricey, $66.00 w/shipping.

PS. I'm just about posiive you will be very happy with a B26 or B26-2. I am very fond of mine in .22. It is a huge value for the money, and represents just about the cream of the crop for Chinese springers.

I bought a Leaper 3-9x40 mil-dot ill. and for the money (68 dollars) it was well worth it. For 99 dollars you could pick up a simmons proair 4-12x40 which IMHO is better than both.

This morning I made a decision and ordered Leapers 3-9 x 50 TS rated with accushot high 1 piece 11 mm dovetail.
I hope it will be better than the Bushnell 3-9 x 32 I just returned.
I guess it should, with the bigger glass.
It is not the R/G just mill dot for 55 bucks. I did not want a four door sedan anyway, coupe will do the trick on the squirrels on pecans at 40 ft just fine.
Now the open sights will have to do for a few days or I will just let them critters get complacent, he he.

I have a couple of the same scopes, except mine have the illum reticle, and they have worked wonderfully for me.  I love em,,,, I think you'll really like that scope.  Let us know how you make out with it.

Exactly. I think the Pro Hunter is the new line.
But even at that, I suspect the Pro Air in that configuration would fetch a bit more than 100 bucks.
Still, after reading some recent reviews on Simmons I decided on Leapers product.
Sometimes company gets complacent with their success and does not progress in research, sometimes even cuts corners to compete in this increasing field of business.

I looked again but it's not the proair it's the prohunter airrifle scope. Cobraairguns has the prohunter. Didn't they discontinue the Simmons ProAir
scopes? Everyone I called said they are on back order.

I received  the  Leapers 3-9 x 50 with accushot high solid mount today.
I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of this scope, that cost only $54.00.
Price was the same as the Bushnell I returned and what a difference! I like the front recess for sun shade as well.
It is now sighted for my 20 yard backyard pest shooting and hopefully the mount will stay put.
The Mendoza 600 does not have a stop drilled on receiver for a set screw, so I just put a little tension on the stop screw thinking it may help. If not, mark will be there where I will drill it later.
I hope there is enough meat on dove tail to drill 1/16 depth safely.

Well, as it was inconceivable the whole base slid on the dove tail good 3/8".
Of course, the set screw made that stripping mark on the top of receiver.
I center punched. predrilled and  drilled 1/8" for the set screw.
Of course, there is not enough thickness to drill 1/8" depth for the set screw.
I found that out when predrilling with 1/16", when it went into what I think is the spring chamber.
At any rate I drilled the 1/8" , made sure the set screw did not go too deep, set the scope and sighted it in on about 40 feet.
It groups about 1/2" now without an elaborate support, so apparently I did not mess up too much.
I still like the new Leapers 3-9 x 50!!
The extra cost for illumination may be a nice plus for early and late hunts but that hardly applies to my back yard.
This Mendoza is making these rifles since 1911, but the innovation to have at least one dimple for a set screw is apparently still effectively escaping their designer team!!
