BSA Ultra Bull Barrel .177

Ever since I bought my first BSA Lightning .177 I have had nothing but praise for the BSA Springer. Originally talking with Peak Chick about what she loved most about her BSA's she thought hearing what I liked best about an air riflethat I would probably really like the style of the BSA Lightning. And yes I did.. The best part about the Lightning is it was perfect right out of the box.

So now for my second and not last BSA. I recently purchased a BSA Ultra Bull Barrel .177 PCP. Today was the first day I was able to shoot her. First words out of my mouth was "This thing is simply Amazing to Shoot". The scope I bought to use on the Ultra turned out not to be powerful enough for me past 30 yards, so I shot at just under 30 yards with Tommy aka TCups all afternoon..

Good Points: The Ultra is light weight, extremely accurate, easy to operate and just an all around great target rifle. The finish is without a doubt premium to say the least, It is very quiet and well balanced, My cheek felt like it would just melt into the comb of the stock.

Bad Points: Absolutely None What's So Ever..

I have my second BSA PCP on order as I am writing this review. Can't wait to get it..

I'm glad you like that sweet Ultra Gene. I know how much I like allmy BSA rifles and my Ultra is perhaps my favorite air rifle.

Numbers !! we need numbers !! hehe . Gene , that air tube looks a little short , How many shots you getting out of her . Is the power adjustable? Us PCP guys need to know these things . I know you didn't even think of breaking out the chronograph today. did ya? I wish I could have been there today , it looks like you guys had a good time shootin' . kirby

David, my Ultra is a single shot version. It shoots in the advertised low 800s with JSB Exacts and about the same with CPHPs. The Ultra is a 12 FPE rifle in .177, about 16 FPE in .22. I Usually shoot 25 shots or so, (Although I could get a few more shots) and then refill it with my pump. About 25-30 pump strokes to refill to 220-230 BAR wit my FX pump.

David, it was hard to tell how many full powered shots I was getting. AOA did not send me the fill probe for the Ultra, so I was using Tommy's fill adaptor for his BSA Scorpion. It would leak when filling my Ultra. I do not think the fill probe was the right one for my Ultra. I would go with what Peak says for now until I can get my bottles recharged and a new fill probe.

800 with exacts .............. looking better the more I hear . I do like 12fpe rifles That ones got to be pretty light weight with the small tube and being a synthetic stock . Thanks Stephanie .

Hey Gene,

In talking with AoA when I bought my .177 Ultra single-shot, they told me that they adjusted it and most others up a little before shipping.   Mine typically turns out around 830-840 fps with JSB Exacts to put the power up in the low teens.  I have found that it typically gives me around 35 shots with a 3200psi fill down to around 1000psi.   Accuracy is excellent and the general feel is just right for this old antique ... very cobby !

Hey Mick, I have not been able to get a full fill yet on my multieshot Ultra Bull Barrel. The FPS sounds about right but If I am not mistaken I am getting around 30 or so shots at about 2700 to 2800 psi.

Hi Gene,

Well ... right now, my scuba tank was down to around 2900psi when I filled the Beesa on Saturday ready to shoot Charlottes' Offhand and the Steroid matches !   I shot 4-5 sighters , 20 match shots at the Gamo tartget ... then 15 at the Steroid target.  At 10 metres there was no dsicernable change in POI.  Now, when I re-filled the Beesa this morning I'd say, from watching my pressure gauge needle hover momentarily, that I'd pulled the rifle pressure down to maybe 600- 700 psi.   It would probably have made a noticeable differenece in longer range POI from dropping that low.   On the average I'd say I get around 35 "full-power" shots from it in general outdoor shooting before I notice the the pellets "getting lazy" - lol.  Soooo ... your 30 shots from 2800 psi would be about right.

To get that full fill on any Beesa you're going to need either one of Joe Brancato's CF 4500 psi tanks or else find one of the 3600 SCUBA types ... thats what I have ... I "stole" it from Dave Kirby a year or two back when he was having a "weak moment" with springers - lol

Yes Sir !   An old Luxfer tank, but dated one year after the "critical years" when they changed alloys ... on second thoughts I'm not sure if it is 3600 or 3300 psi rated ... my local - (70 miles away down in the swamps) - can only pump air to around 3300-3400 psi anyways !    Just had a fresh hydro this year and still hanging in there.   I must admit though, that at 80+ years old and still recuperating from an attack by a "knife-wielding" quack, I greatly enjoy having the use of a little folding two-wheeled buggy to move it around ... my last tank was a 100cf steel one - lol.   Occasionally I think of finding a second aluminium one like it, so that I could run the pair in a cascade setup ... would cut down on the lifting into the truck and the drive to Chattanooga.

(PS:  Of course ... still being a devout old school Limey at heart ... I could have said "NO ... It's an Aluminium tank)
