TCups re target height & other questions
« Reply #15 on: February 15, 2009, 07:59:18 AM »
re ISSF rules
http://www.issf-shooting.org/default.aspx?mode=issf-sports&menu=22&mod=ifpg&pane=10&inst=6
re NRA rules
I can't help w the NRA rules except to say check the NRA web site.

re target height
ISSF regulation target height is 1.4 meters (~55-1/8 inches) +/- 0.05 meters (~2 inches) to center of target from the level of the floor at the firing point.
This is easy to measure if the floor is level from the shooting position to the target.
Mine isn't, so I have to measure 1.4 meters at the shooting position then use a cheap Home Depot laser level to locate that height at the target.

re 3P
That is an NRA, 4H and maybe CMP match so you need to find/order the NRA sportster rule book.  I had the rule book (for my own info), but of course now that I'm looking for it, I can't find it.
I've seen photos of shooters in the prone position on tables.  I think this is to raise their position relative to the fixed target height, thus reducing the relative target height, so they are not shooting so up-hill.

re support hand
There are many different ways of supporting the rifle.
My arm put the rifle too low, so I have to use the knuckles of my upraised fist to raise the rifle.  I have the back of my hand facing the target, and the rifle rests on the 1st 2 knuckles.  And if you do not have a padded glove, it is NOT comfortable.  In fact your knuckles will start to HURT from the weight of the rifle on those 2 knuckles.  Once you develop your stance, with a heavy rifle like your LGR, it should be quite stable.
If you have "The Ways of the Rifle" you will see different shooters holding the rifle in different ways.  Use what-ever work for YOU.

re removing the shoe
Should not be a problem as you are actually "removing" support.

re "drugs"
One general rule is anything that reduced your pulse rate is verboten.
Probably similar for anything that affects the muscles.
On the flip side, best not to drink coffee or coke before shooting either...cafeine will work the opposite way.

Multiple entries okay this week?
« Reply #17 on: February 15, 2009, 08:23:22 AM »
I thought the rules last week were one entry per shooter per match, even if you have multiple rifles.  Charlotte, ruling please ;-).

I was SOOOO tired from yesterday at the range! I shot 4 targets this morning and quit. I was exhausted. I shot my Daisy 853 with JSB Exact's and shot 49--47--46--45 and was thoroughly glad to have finished. My score is 187.

Dave, you are right.  Potentially one person could take 1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc. so it isn't fair for that reason.

Well there is your problem right there, the metric system!  You'll shoot much better if you convert to fahrenheit.  See how well Mick is doing now that he's put that European metric fad behind him!  Seriously, I'd be shaking so bad I wouldn't even be on paper.

Of course ... only my BSA score is anything approaching "valid" for this event ... I jusy had to try the AA S.400SL, my newest riflefor the first time - it's only 1 week old  - lol .   As for the Logun ... welll it's old but I've never shot it at a paper target in competition.

By the way Charlotte, we were still using that archaic inches, feet and yards stuff - NOT Metric - when I left the UK 50-odd years ago - lol.

Crosman Custom shop 2400 with LW barrel and Discovery internals running on 2000 psi air, Simmons red dot.

Score of 183 (same as last week) but this time I was using a hammer to drive nails for 4 hours prior to shooting, and shooting in the dark with a flash light on the target (excuses excuses, I can come up with a million as to why I did not improve my score this week). Next week I will get to it before 8:30 at night Sunday night.

Well, another week, another excuse !

I slowed down quiet a bit, but as Tommy has stated, it's hard to put her down, when you know you should !

I believe I need a new battery for my camera, it was on charge all day, but no luck :)

This week I fired my Kirby/Gene/Bill, HW-30 >177 cal.Daisy WC, 46 + 45 + 45 + 45 = 181

Thanks Dan,

I slowed down a lot, and tried to put the gun down when I knew that I was holding tooooo long :)

Still I shot this in less than 15 minutes :) Maybe next week will be even better,,,,or not :(

Eleven years ago, I would have expected to do a lot better on that big of a target. But as they say, time wounds all heals :)

Rifle is my S200 again, Burris Timberline at 4X, RWS R-10 8.2 gr. pellet, indoors, shot a 189-4X.  Thought I shot a 190, but when I checked my math, I found out it's a good thing I checked my math :-(.

Not that I'm counting it, but just for grins, I shot this with my 853 today, and got a 184 with Crosman Premier Match pellets and diopter sights!  That included adjusting my sight half way through.  I also shot the Steroid match with it, but I'll post that where it goes :-).  Later.
