For Tommy......looking for a classic match rifle....

....which one do I choose?  I really liked your rifle at the shootout, but I'm torn between springs and SSP, also have a stroooong pull pulling me towards a modern springer (non-match, maybe TX200 or HW97).  Have money, burning a hole, and not sure what to do.  Maybe I should just replace my back fence?  I have a Daisy 853 SSP recently aquired that I have only shot maybe 5 rounds through, maybe I don't need another.  What was yours, Walther LGR?

The 853 is a good shooter -- I have one too.  I almost never shoot it.  The size, weight and feel of a true Olympic match rifle makes them a completely different animal.  I occasionally feel the tug of the the high tech aluminum and laminates of a PCP match rifle., but the blued steel and walnut of the classic Walther LGR seem to somehow be more appropriate for an old fart like me.  I will never be able to shoot well enough to justify $2500 or more on a modern PCP match rifle, and realistically, I will never compete in any serious 10-meter matches.  BTW, the Walther at the NTAGM is the one I bought for my brother.  

Of all the air rifles I have acquired, the Walther is my favorite.  Jim Edmundson is the guy to call and ask about the classic match rifles.  J. Wookcock has also been a good source of info for high end match rifles.

I am still stuck on the low cost PCP's and springers. Like Tommy says, I will never be good enough with my eyes to compete and would never entertain that idea. But it sure is fun to shoot against yourself just for general personal improvement. I just ordered an S-200 two piece stock with adjustable butt pad and comb. I fell in love with Dave Dunn's S-200 at the NTAGM shoot. Dano had his but with the nice custom walnut one piece stock it was a bit to much for me..

I also still want an R-7 or HW-30 to custom tune and shoot. I am getting rid of most all my high powered springers including the .22's. Guess I am kinda getting to what I really like to shoot now..

Jim called me Monday and asked if I still wanted the AA S200T -- said he had another potential buyer. I passed.  Should have know it was you.  I slept on it, picked up the BSA Scorpion carbine again, and decided I would stick with it, maybe modify the stock and spend the $ for my next air gun on a used Steyr LP-1 pistol from Jim Edmondson instead of the S200T.  Tough choice.  Glad you got it.

Low powered guns are golden unless you hunt.  I don't hunt so my power struggle is gone.  My most powerfull gun was that Crosman G1Extreme that I gave to Patrick, now my most powerful gun is my Disco.  My S200 is a low power monster, I really love that gun and doubt I will get rid of it anytime soon.  I still want a nice springer though, so I'm a little torn between the springer or the match gun, can only afford one, so I have to make it a winner:)

You won't go wrong with a Walther LGR, or LGR-U if you can find a nice one.  All the advantages of a PCP for accuracy and all the convenience of a springer, with self contained power supply.  The trigger on the Walther is like nothing else I have ever shot.  And I know there are classic match rifles that are springers, and some prefer them.  J has one that he is very fond of -- a Diana, but I am ashamed to say  I cant remember the make and model -- it has dual opposed springs and some such complex arrangement to minimize recoil and torque.  But I prefer the single stroke pneumatics.  The Walther is an absolute 575 fps tool.

I got an Anschutz LG250 match rifle from Jim. It's recoiless and a springer to boot! 575fps and WAY more accurate than me. I paid around $520.00 shipped and absolutely love it.

That's who I got my Anschutz from! Very nice fellow and tells it like it is. If it's got wear marks on it, he will tell you, or anything else for that matter.

I've shot a lot of those 300's and they are a work horse. Maybe not Olympic by todays standards, but they will sure as heck shoot better than 99% of the people who own them.

Don't know much about this rifle, but if this is an honest seller, then that looks like a good buy. I am having fun with the Walther, and it has a palpable antique/classic appeal in both shooting and just admiring.

As I said, Jim Edmundson is THE guy if you want a classic match rifle.  You will find no more reputable dealer of fine German imports and top-end used match air rifles.  Jim is also an expert on match pistols.  There are only a few folks I know  and trust enough to plunk down really big bucks on a used air rifle or air pistol, sight unseen without any hesitation.  Jim is one of them.
