Gamo Big Cat 1200 mod....what do you think?

Hello, I am brand new to the GTA and new to springers. I have learned a lot already just looking around here, so thank you already. Well, the reason for the post is this, out of frustration with the Gamo spring twang, and trying every lube and amount of lube I could come up with , I decided to try something different. I cut a 9 inch long piece of 1/8" I.D. silicone tubing, folded it in half and inserted it inside the coils of the spring. I reassembled it and my twang is completely gone! I don't have a chrono, so, do you think this was a good idea or bad one? Has something like this been done before? Any help would be appreciated.

Sounds like your thinking out of the box. If the rubber tubing absorbs the vibratiions, then no problem. If it shoots well, again, no problem. A crony before and after would tell the whole story. If you like it then it should be something for some of us to consider in the future.

First off, a big welcome to the GTA forum and family.  Ah yes, the famous Gamo "Twang".....have you tried stuffing the butt stock with foam, rags or newspaper?  It'll dampen the sound abit and give the BC some weight to reduce barrel sway also.  Your bend silicone tube inside the spring is a first....I don't think I've ever read about that.....since it works....GREAT.  Just hope it doesn't break apart due to the rubbing from the spring and/or lubrication.

The venturi gas ram is incredible. I've shot my viper (with stock spring) and my buddies viper with venturi gas ram.  What an incredible difference in feel and over all firing cycle.  I will be putting a gas ram in my viper ASAP.

No tawng with the gas ram, sounds like a Rifle firing rather than a vibrating air horn.

Kinda similar to the idea of shrink wrapping the sprng guide...supposed to reduce the "twang!"  I just stuff the butt of the "plastic guns" with memory foam like Gene told me to do, that seems to work well...

It looks like you have a solution to your twang, and being happy in our sport/ hobby is what really matters after all !

JM's heavy tar is what is usually put on the spring to quiet the spring down ! But if you quiet it down too much, with too much tar, it tends to slow the velocity of the air guns. A little bit works best, and on the outside of the spring.

Keep your eyes out for my installation procedure on putting an Air-Venturi into a Gamo.  It should be out early next week on Gamo Gate (I should be doing the work tonight or tomorrow).

That looks like it should do it, Nicholas..Just don't stuff it so full that it bulges the stock...

I was looking around for something to stuff into the stock of my BC.  Looking around I spotted a box of electrical sealing putty I use for my silent traps.  Stuffed a whole bar still in its wrapper into the cavity and buttoned her up.  I think each bar is 2# and it really made the rifle feel better.  Problem is that I feel the need to make the barrel heavier as I was shooting out in the slight wind today and was thinking a little weight up front would help too.  Thinking of some 1 1/2 pvc tube filled with a bit of weight over the barrel.  Hmm guess I'll try that tomorrow...

Thank you all for the warm welcome...this IS the best forum on the planet. I see a big difference between this forum and others, there is so much more quality and quantity here. I am very anxious to learn all I can from all of you. I am so pleased with the silicone tubing trick in my BC that I'm bummed that I can't duplicate it in my Ruger Airhawk Elite. (no dead space in the spring coils when cocked) I will come up with something sooner or later. Have already tried the heavy tar. I will post any results.

Thank you sir, since I am in a household situation where pampers are readily available to me; I ended up setting two size 4 Huggies down into the stock and then I capped it of with one size N Huggie.  The shots have a nice "Thud" sound to it but still a tad bit "Twingy", once I send it in for tuning, my Shadow should be on its way to quietness.
