If you can put some pressure on the stock to open the crack a little way you should be able to force ( trowel ) some epoxy glue in the crack then clamp it till it is cured usally over night and the next day I would drill a hole inside the stock down into the pistol grip not all the way through but about far enough to span the crack and then drill a hole for a1/2 dia to 5/8 inch dowell then you can coat a dowell with epoxy and put some of the epoxy into the hole too then you can put the dowell into the hole fix the stock ( note you need to put either a flat on one side of the dowell or cut a grove down the side of the dowell so the glue traped in the hole can squeeqe out , a lso it is a good idea to pre fit and cut he length of the dowell first so it is eayser so you don't have to try to cut off the part of the dowell after it dryes. And since you have allready striped the stock you will not have to worry about protecting the varnish finish. ( PS epoxy glue has alcohal as it's thinner and can be used for clean up before it is cured.and if you make an error and go through the pistol grip you can put a end cap of a different wood as a trim pice. I've fixed quite a few of stocks this way includeing stocks in 2 pieces and it works fine.
