Katana update
« on: March 15, 2010, 03:30:41 PM »
It's quiet now! The wait kind of sucked -

I think I was falling asleep in this picture.. who knows!

I just need to get my end cap machined so I can put it back on. Another wait! :(

-Matt

Apparently the barrel shifted a bit when I put it on.. I had to sight her back in. It's been raining none stop for 3 days now, so I guess I have sighted it in on random crap on the ground.

Well I fixed my barrel issue I just had to move it forward a bit so the barrel would not flex up. Tighten the screws and good to go!

How do you like the feel of the Kantana Matt. MIne feels much better than my Disco. But I will eventually get my new custom walnut Disco stock from Timmy. Looking real good Matt and thanks for sharing such a fine tool with us...:)

It's great, however this morning It was sunny out for once and I put her to the chrony. Pyramid Air's 10 for 10 test showed me that it was shooting 14 grain pellets @ 922 - 890s for the first ten shots, once I did it with 14 grain pellets I was only getting 840s. I fired 30 shots through and the first 30 were all 830 - 840 pretty good I suppose.. then it dropped off buy shot 35 down to 790 etc... then down to 680 then WOOP out of air. Anyone else getting these similar numbers or am I going to have to yell at pyramid air for giving me false chrony numbers?

not all 14 grain pellets fly the same speed........plus they where probably at a different elevation and temperature than you. possibly try indoor chrony shooting

You'd be surprised  how greatly it effects these pellets...Shooting where I am (San Francisco) I have high humidity average 50-60 degrees. So my pellets don't fly as fast....But then when I go to Sacramento..lower humidity higher temps, my pellets fly faster and higher so I always have to adjust my zero when I go back and fourth.

but your numbers are good......22-23fpe

.22 Benjamin Discovery

My .22 Disco with Beeman FTS pellets, which are a tad heavier than 14.3 gr, is averaging right around 840 at the top of the curve and as you know it's the same as your Katana, except of course that your Katana has a choked barrel and the disco doesn't.

14.3 gr pellets averaging 840 fps is nothing to be to upset about from a hunting stand point.  Those numbers will definitely get the job done on any small game you point it at  :)

Remember,,,,, a DOA nutter doesn't know if the pellet that killed him was traveling 840 fps or 900 fps .....  dead is dead  :)
