Short and NOT sweet!
« on: April 17, 2007, 12:39:49 PM »
Ordered a new Leapers 6x Bug Buster scope from Pyramyd Air last week, arrived yesterday, will be going back tomorrow!  This thing is TERRIBLE!  Okay, to be specific, the optics are crap.  If I hold my head just right, and look through the bottom of the scope, I get a sort of clear image.  Otherwise, it's like looking through a peice of old glass, fuzzy, distorted, and out of focus.  I like the look and feel of it otherwise, and it's a perfect fit on the IZH 60, so I'm going to ask PA to send a replacement.  But if it's the same, I'm done with Leapers scopes.  Will keep you posted.

Dave

The eye relief on that scope leaves not much margin for error with regular scope mounts.  I have one and will need a pair of mounts to bring the scope back further to my eye.  At this time,  I have to "hunt and peck" for a clear sight picture.  If/when I get another mount (PA sells the mounts needed) it is perfect for keeping a light rifle... light.  IMHO it good enough to use for something, when one gets the eye relief corrected with different scope mounts.  I have also thought it might be a good match for my Crosman SSP 250 with a metal breech.  I hope this helps.

Talked to Leapers yesterday, since I have another Leapers going back (again) for warranty replacement, I'm sending the Bug Buster at the same time.  Since I actually TALKED to a real person, I feel better than I did before.  We'll see how long the warm & fuzzy lasts once the new scopes get here :-).  One interesting note: since my 3-12x44 full size is being replaced again, and since it's too big for my HW 77, I asked if a different scope could be substituted.  This is NOT normal Leapers policy, but an exception is being made, I'm getting a compact in exchange.

Kevin, regarding the eye relief, I knew it was short when I ordered the scope.  That's why I also order the BKL 1pc. short cantilever mount.  Like you said, light rifle light, and I ordered this for my IZH 60.  It was a good fit, just bad glass.  Hopefully, the new one will be better.  More later.
