Ruger Black Hawk
« on: May 06, 2010, 05:04:20 PM »
Guys, could you direct me to the proper tune kit and piston seal over at ARH. Just found out today my spring is broken and the piston seal looks a little ragged. Your help will be appreciated.

GRT spring with the the large Apex Seals, for Diana, RWS34. Be careful when taking the sleeve out of your piston. If you dent it or damage it your spring will rub when you cock it. You canleave the sleeve out but you risk the cocking lever shoe dragging on the spring when it cants.

Anything for the 34 will fit. GRT= close to factory power. GSX = lower power. Apex seal = little to no sizing required. I put a GRT spring and a couple of washers and an Apex seal in my Air Hawk a couple of years ago and I get 889 Average fps/ 13 fps spread/ 4 SD with FTS's.
Don't forget to order some Moly and good luck.

It's about 3 months old.  I have put about 4500 rounds through it all heavy pellets (Beeman Kodiak Heavy).  It broke the last coil off that sits on the spring guide washer.  The washer looks a little bent in towards the middle where the spring sets.  The piston seal also looked a little ragged.  The rifle is a great shooter very accurate.

thats why it broke so fast. by using heavy pellets. it puts alot of stress on the spring and wears it out prematurly. is it still under warranty? if so, i wouldnt tell them about your pellet choice and find something no more than 8gr or so. hope this helps

no more than 8 grains in the airhawk or if u use heavies   make sure its pcp or gasram i may on occassion if i hunt use 10s but not like that not frequently.
keep your eyes on the prize & dont let it crawl away.

If you got it from pyrayd air  that's one of their pellet choices are the heavies, but i would stay with a liter pellet likethe JSB Match Diabolo Exact .177 Cal, 8.4 Grains, Domed or  H&N Crow Magnum .177 Cal, 8.80 Grains, Hollowpoint or Crosman Premier .177 Cal, 7.9 Grains, Hollowpoint, 500ct

4500 rounds with Kodiaks on a factory spring?,........that aint too shabby. I would take the others advice and drop the weight a bit. Kodiaks are great pellets, but best left to magnum springers and hunting applications. tjk

Well I had a feeling using those heavy pellets would come back to haunt me however it didn't seem to matter what brand or pellet shape I used in the 8 to 9 grain range I could not get a decent group.  Now that I am going to install Jim Maccari's tune kit and seals maybe those groups will improve with a pellet in the 8 grain range.  The broken spring really hasn't become such a bad thing it gave me a reason to build my first spring compressor and crack open my first springer.  Thank you all for your input its greatly appreciated.

there are so many different types of 177 pellet that your bound to find something else it likes but would stay away from even the 9gr for all around shooting.  the kodiaks are ok for occasional use. say for hunting. you could even pick up a b25 .22 barrel for cheap if you need the extra ass of a heavier pellet
