Stoeger X50 Full Test String Details
« on: May 06, 2010, 11:12:08 PM »
As a number of folk have emailed me for more detail, here's the actual test string for the total Stoeger air rifle X50 test. The Archer Airguns "Gold Service" test is 10 shots, and I'll usually take a few more with springers to try to clear some dieseling if possible. In the case of this gun, I fired a total of 33 shots - as this was the first time I had ever shot one.

As you can see, there was effectively no dieseling with this X50. 1123 fps actually was the first shot fired by this rifle and it immediately settled-down to  a fairly steady 1100 fps average. This is similar to my "long term test" X20 which dieseled a little more, but also for relatively few shots.

Shot   Muzzle Velocity
1   1123
2   1107
3   1111
4   1095
5   1115
6   1118
7   1114
8   1118
9   1109
10   1109
11   1108
12   1101
13   1109
14   1097
15   1097
16   1107
17   1109
18   1092
19   1103
20   1099
21   1103
22   1094
23   1104
24   1102
25   1096
26   1110
27   1101
28   1091
29   1114
30   1099
31   1096
32   1096
33   1094

In my view this is pretty impressive performance for a "right out of the box" air rifle.

I'll publish details of my testing with the Stoeger X20 model as soon as I can. (So many guns, so little time...)

The shot strings looks impressive, how about the felt of recoil and grouping size if I may ask, Sir? Thanks.

Willie, I think Steve was just giving us numbers on this post. Like he said, time is not always available running a busines like he has. I am kinda interested in the Stoegar X20. More my size of gun..:)

OK, Gene. That shot strings are really impressive for me. If that gun can group tight (say about 3/8" typical at 35 - 40 yards) that would be awesome! Mr. Archer, you need an assistant to test the guns for you so you can concentrate more on the business side. Hehehe. Just kidding, Sir. :) BTW Gene, How are you? Hope you feel better now. Get well soon.

I'm pretty sure he's using  crosman premeir lites, does it hit hard at the end of the shot cycle?I would be afraid to use those on a magnum like that i prefer 10.5 grains,if you do more testing could you do a test on the little heavier weight.Thanx Dano.

Oops! Sorry for omitting the obvious...

I tested using Crosman Premier Lites. 7.93 Grain. I found these to be the moist accurate pellets in the X20 I tested and the group was quite good in the X50 also. (Hey, 7:00AM  - when I made the post - is early for me and I'm not a coffee drinker (water only during the day), so it takes me a few minutes to fire up to running speed :-)

Group size was as in the post below. The main limitation on accuracy is me. I put two pellets in the same hole a couple of times but opened-up with the shot count. I'm just not a very consistent springer shooter and 1100fps really tests my technique and finds it wanting.

I thought the felt recoil was not at all bad - certainly less than I was expecting. Although personally I'm happier with smaller, lighter rifles such as the Stoeger X20.

Dano, I hear you about pellet weights and the Stoeger X50 air rifle.

But while I don't test using the lightest pellets, many of our customers are not highly-knowledgeable about air rifles and they want to see a "Gold Service" test that indicates the muzzle velocity of their particular air rifles matches the manufacturer's claims. Explaining that a lower muzzle velocity actually would be better is very complicated for many people to understand and takes much time and effort. So, I prefer to standardise on one pellet for our "Gold Service" customer tests and that's CPLs for Stoeger air rifles - these pellets are also readily available at retail and many customers like to use the same pellets as I used to test their gun.

But I will do some testing on the X50 with heavier pellets for members of this forum and post the results here when I have a chance.

I have tested a variety of pellets in the X20 model already and CPLs gave the best accuracy at a steady 900fps -ish. Details to come...

If the trigger on the X50 is the same as the X20 then the pull wt is around 6lbs. If that is the case then you can buy a GRT-III trigger and you can adjust it down to 1 lbs if you like. Here is a link for showin how making the GRT-III work,

stephen, being that they arent importing them in 22, could you get a 22 barrel from them?
