It brought a huge smile to my face when I clicked the GTA link in my favorites and the page actually popped up, I just about started jumping up and down. So anyway, lately my backyard has been pretty barren with no birds or rabbits to speak of but around the side of the house the chipmunks have been hard at work tunneling and stealing bird seed. So in a minor epiphany of sorts I decided to take the scope off of my Gamo Whisper deluxe .177 and shoot open sights. So the gamo sat with a loaded pellet pen full of gamo hunters by the front door. Finally, an unsuspecting fat faced chipper came to the feeder and decided to snack. I creeped around the side of the house and carefully lined up my shot. Sent the lead on its way and just as quickly the chipper went down. The smooth pull of the GRT never fails to amaze me in field use. Got this guy probably right through the top of the spinal cord.
The next guy was a bit peskier. He didn't give me much of a good head shot at 10 yards (which is about the range all these kills are at) so I settled for a chest/back shot. Well somehow he managed to weasel his way into the bushes after I nailed him in the side. I found him still gasping in the bushes a few feet from a tunnel opening so I put one in his head to end the suffering.
The final kill came just a day later. This guy was stuffing his face when I pulled the trigger. He did some back flips and finally came to a rest a few feet from where I originally shot him. I'm pretty sure I caught him in the liver or some other vital lower organ.
All three kills have sent a message to the local chipper community. I haven't seen one for a few days now and couldn't be happier. But when they do come back, the Gamo Whisper DX will be ready and waiting!
