Tune kits Questions
« on: April 02, 2008, 12:32:07 AM »
I've ordered a Maccari spring for my HW77 to have on hand for when the factory spring breaks. I couldn't find out what Maccari includes in either the Hornet or "Spezial"" tune kits. I found a european site (konceptus?) that shows their kits contain a spring, front and rear plastic guides and a brass cylinder. Seemed like a little for a lot of money. Why use plastic guides instead of Steel? Wouldn't it be just as simple to order a spring and check the hardware store for plastic washers to serve as a rear guide? Should the spring ends be buffed and/or polished? Do you apply moly paste to the guides? What is the brass cylinder in the european kit?
I tried searching for the answers, but couldn't find them. And while I'm asking, why can't I go back past page 7 in posts? Do I need a secret decoder ring?

Thanks

click on 7 then see if other numbers are available to click on. Works for me. See this link on springs and tunes http://www.gatewaytoairguns.com/library/Library_MainPage.htm

Thanks Mr Fix, I had wondered about the spring ends. To clarify on the outer spring it should be tar or moly? The spring guides and ends should be lubed with moly? If I go ahead and swap out the spring I would just like to do whatever I can to smooth it out while it's apart.

Thanks

Thank you once again Mr.Fix,I'll attend to the spring as you say. I take it the moly is a good lube for the underlever joints?

Thanks

Actually, the spring ends should have the moly and on the spring OD you should apply the tar. I would not use moly on a spring. Moly on the spring will just get flung off the spring due to the vibration and will not dampen the vibration nor will it reduce the harmonics. Try not to get too much tar on the ID of the spring as that has a tendency to reduce velocity because of the excessive drag created by the tar.

Ok got the new spring today, sanded then polished the ends, checked and have tar for the od and moly for the ends. Even got the offset mount for the 6x32 bug buster. I wonder should I try that scope on the HW77 or wait for my stimulus refund and see if I can afford an HW30?
Thanks
