B3 Trigger
« on: April 09, 2008, 11:20:19 AM »
My B3 developed a hair trigger, at times it would fire as soon as I cocked it. I took it apart to replace the sear but when I did it would not latch with the new sear. Made some adjustments and replaced old sear, it would latch but still a hair trigger.  Any one had a problem like this. I just wonder if the rear of the piston where it latches is worn to far? Any Help....  Thanks,, FN

One of mine just started that and I believe my problem is the sear spring. I had bent it slightly to get a lighter trigger, but after a few hundred rounds, it's too light now. Try replacing the sear spring and that may help your's, if not, then you'll probably have to pull the piston and touch up the catch.

Yup Mike got it, Spring or the piston area has lost it's edge and the sear isnt holding. Keep us posted on what you find. Ed

I replaced the sear and spring as I did find the spring broke. With the old sear in it I can just touch the  trigger without thinking and fire it, or it will fire when the cock is completed, by itself. Good thing I had it pointed to the ground, I make a habit of that.. Do you think I should try to file a new edge on the piston?  The only way to salvage it I would say. If I mess up just look for another piston... Thanks,,, FN

I would try to file the piston and go alittle deeper. If that doesn't correct the problem, get another B from Cummins Tool, $20 and use it for parts.

Sometimes it takes quite a few cocking sequences to settle the sear into that piston area. I went through the same thing and just keep cocking it over and over until it seated in, never had a problem since and I also did the bump test over and over to make sure. But if nothing changes you will have to swap it for a fresh one. Ed

This one is my original Cummins with named stamped into it. So it is better than 20 years old. About time something started to wear. I will try to file it and see what happens.. FN

I gave up on it. Did some filing and other things and it still discharged on it's own. Decided it was unsafe. I do have another and what I did was take the best of both and ended up with a B3 that shoots around 600. Above with the lighter pellets and a bit below with the heavies... So in the end I am happy with what I have now.. This one has a better scope rail so that helps too... Thanks for all the help..... FN

Bummer Frank and it's best as you did to swap it out for a safe one. Safety first as always and glad you got her up and running again. Ed
